Of Day and Night

I now peruse the activities
Of this aging brain, born
In the late summer of sixties---

It was daylight
I think,
Ahh no, it was night

The intriguing tongue
Of day and night,
Speaking, subtlety

The language of birds, the doves
Of the street to this aging brain
A taste of life, a taste of death

As into love, I push
My heart into the new path
From an old morning psalm

And hold the breath
Of day and night,
The light and the darkness
