ODE TO POETRY

The poet with his mighty pen,
Warrior for all women and Men.
Using words that all can afford, 
Phrases mightier than a sword.
With eloquent prowess a tale,
Powerful thought for a ship to sail,
Gentle and tender lacking power,
To grow a bouquet of a dainty flower. 
A poet can render you to tears,
Or dispel your wildest fears.

Poetry forges a bridge sublime,
Between now and the earliest of time.
Bringing your imagination to play, 
Or educating with facts of the day.
Images beyond your wildest dreams.
Passion intense and whimsical scenes.
Fantasy to delight the hardest heart.
Adventure that really stands apart.
Wisdom handed down through the ages.
Enlightenment gained in poetry book pages.

Its such an easy way for children to read.
Just a short line at a time for them to heed.
Poetry can create a new world, in a single verse,
Or try to better things that are definitely worse.
Poetry can throw a damper on such actions as wars,
And stand tall advocating efforts of a good cause.
The good word of our Lord above,
Is often coupled with the Peace dove,
With sincerity in the words that were spoken.
It can remind us that they mustn’t be broken.
