Ode to Leonard Cohen

An unsavory man from Montreal
squatted in dim lit cafes
writing of the pain of love
a charlatan
he was the darker lovely dove
he inhaled the smoke of Satan
he sang to the devils army
purist of evil
his grave a urinal
to be used, over and over
his words knelt like prayers
and rose like knives.

Thinning morals
he possesses zero virtue
just a shadow
of the fires down below
he sings for the child killers
the thieves and robbers of the land
he chants of love, he means rape
for those not of his blend
his wishes burnt under
hidden flames of hostility

He may dress in rags
he may play the victim
in the end though
he will burn your flesh
a sacrifice
then he will call you his fool
he sang for genocide
not for the goyim half wit

Dead, he is dead
angels he will never see

Arthur, compassion for others is truly a measure of a person. Considering the circumstances in the Middle East, there are many examples of compassion's absence we find hard to watch. As bad as things seem, we hope more people in Israel understand that bombing, fighting, and treating other people like dirt needs to stop. Hatred destroys those who hold it in their hearts. When those who suffered at one time perpetrate a similar kind of suffering on others we call it irony.

Its a cult, in recent surveys by Israeli Media, Israelis ( aprox 80%) do not consider Palestinians human, I have no idea why Zionists Christians in the USA act with the same hate.

I used to love his works, but I can never support someone who dehumanized a group of people, makes me very sad.

I had never heard of him until he did the song, "Hallelujah", which the tune, rhythm, and the way he sang it was beautiful. When it starts it sounds like a nice religious song, but it goes downhill, however, there have been several religious songs penned to match the music and they are wonderful. I guess the writers got permission to use the music part so they would be legal. I will have to look other songs of his and see what he is about. Thanks for sharing. Sara K

This poet will always be remembered as a wonderful poet whose songs were superb and whose life would have been challenging. That song "Dance with me till the end of love" introduced him to me.

and yes it broke my heart too I thought he was a nice sensitive person, but one can not overlook this. really does break my heart, but many have lately. Shocked so many can not have compassion and empathy for all people not just their own.

I wish that too, however after researching more, saddened to see he probably would be, it was hard to find, but he did make some comments later on in support of IDF, I used to love his works, now I burn all his books.

I just knew him through his song "Dance with me to the end of love".. What is unique about you is that you is that you dig deep and you look inside the human soul and not just listen to and get impressed by what they preach! You always have a vision, a message, a stand behind your poetry.. stay always blessed by the gift of Humanity.. God bless.

He is from my city, one can not sing and dance of love, while performing before an army committing genocide and slaughtering women and children, II used to love his works, until I found out.
