Ode To Danny ,You Are Finally Sober As a Judge

You lived a hard life with tortured soul
Wanted more struggled to be whole
Addiction became your whole being
Your life has to have a meaning

I watched your tortured soul for years
Carrying bags with drink and beer
Hiding it more from yourself than me
The drunk is what you came to be

But there was much more to the man
Whose name was known to all as Dan
He had a heart that was bigger than most
Under the tough exterior he'd boast

He lived the life he wanted to live
If you were friend his shirt he'd give
His death to some came as a surprise
For some we watched his years of demise

So now I toast you here today
That is what you'd want I'd say.

My goodness, that's sad....good poetry though. So much good poetry comes from sadness

Very sad and shocking. Never thought I'd know some that was murdered. He was a gentle soul when sober. The alcohol eventually made him have a lapse in judgement.
