Ode to a Poet and Gatekeeper
O dear poet, your mind unfurls
A tapestry of words and worlds,
A weaver of new rhythmic thread,
Where novel forms are born and bred
Who, ever is a step ahead,
To you we humbly blow our head.
No sooty scrolls, no trying ways,
You chart your course through modern maze,
A sculptor of the spoken phrase,
Igniting minds with bright new blaze,
From common thoughts, a seed you take,
With it a pure beauty you make.
Your structures rise, a thrilling art,
That capture swiftly beating heart,
A fresh perspective, set apart,
A novel language, takes its start;
We marvel at the shape you cast,
A future vision, holding fast.
As seams of the mind undertake,
A bright new blossom soon awakes
The mould is broken, built to last,
A heritage, designed to last,
Under the stamp of Brian Strand,
Poetry of a novel brand.
O, dear gatekeeper, whose years gleam
Quite close to ninety vibrant dreams,
With unmatched record of contests
Sponsored by you, seeking the best
Talents with the shine of brilliance,
To you I tend my reverence .
Your contests light a steady fire,
Igniting every poet's desire
To craft a line, to weave a tale,
To make their inner voices hail
Across the bounds of time and space
In your trophies, to win a place.
The youthful vigour you display,
No aged soul can match its sway;
Within an hour of contest end
The results are ready at hand,
With new contests posted on board
For eager souls to string their chord.
You build a stage, a hallowed ground,
Where diverse talents can be found,
The trophies gleamed, a bright reward,
For poets from such diverse wards,
But more than a stamp, shining bright,
You offer hope, a ray of light.
The years may fly and seasons turn,
But in our hearts your teachings burn,
Your love for language, pure and true,
A gift, dear poet, born of you:
We, who`ve sensed your generous soul,
Have found our purpose and our goal
Your legacy, a vibrant thread,
Across generations will spread,
So let`s write in letters of gold
Your spirit so brave and so bold,
Our poet and sponsor so bright,
Illuminating our world with light.
