Notes About The Poem

Ode to a Nameless Cat

It’s almost raining, a bit breezy and just damned comfortable
out here on my porch in Thailand
I take in whiffs of wet jungle mountain wood and jasmine
It’s been happening enough to keep me ensconced right here
along side this nameless and affection-starved cat

All cats worldwide are imbued with a mode of being that humans
In the west are too busy to be bothered with. As much as I think I’m
in its zone, it tells me I need to uncomplicate and undomesticate

I call it “it” because I realize I haven’t checked the plumbing .

Your mission, says it, is not to figure out what the hell you’re doing
That clutter will sort itself out in due course. You’ve always thought
you never had the time but that crutch is gone and you’ll now see
that it’s not the issue. Somehow you’ve always known this, haven’t you?
You’ve lived in doorways your whole life. Liminal space pushes creativity
to the back burner, but the fact that you are writing these thoughts
is a good first sign… maybe. Just sit and trust and exist and nap here with me
right now. Feel the promise and permanence in those words.
You’ve preached this before, now is the time to live that sermon

Sage retirement advice from a nameless cat, not that it cares.
