Notes About The Poem

10/8/2025 for My Challenge for October Poetry Contest sponsored by Andrea Dietrich

Ode to a Bad Back

I sing this ode to you, bad back,
though you have given pain and woe -
and sent me to many a quack
looking only to make some dough.
The pain you cause is an attack.
I wish you'd find a place to go,
but I know my dear loyal friend,
that you'll be with me till the end.

This is my husband's big woe. I fear he will never find his cure for relief. I hope you can, but I think this is a really hard one for people. Your rhyming and humor are right on point. Congrats to you.

Thanks, Sara. It seems some people can find solutions, and others (me) can just "manage" the problem, which is way better than nothing.

I empathize with you with back pain...the most unforgiving pain I've experienced to date....best wishes with this contest entry.

Oh my goodness. Your poem reminds me of Robert Burns's poem about a toothache. Yours is a painful, yet jolly good poem. It is (sorry) enjoyable.

haha, just read the Robert Burn's poem - hadn't seen that before - pretty funny, what I got out of it.

Hello David, Way back, I had a bad back due to a motorcycle, a drunk, and a train track. For 3 years, it almost drove me to using crack. Bought a new vehicle that didn't have bucket seats and had lumbar support. Within 2 months, it all went the way of the wooden fort. Your poem gave me a lot to think about and consort. No more back, Chort. Great Read, LOL! Autumn Blessings, David, Daniel
