Observing a Woman
she is a romantic he thinks
based on her muted colors
her shawl and her skirt flow
an old-fashioned woman
his mother would have liked her
he studies her hair
it looks soft, yet she is not dainty
she is built with a grandmother’s lap
she probably has children, he surmises.
based on her lunch
women with children do not save food for themselves
she obviously has a man, someone who buys her books.
he moves on, forgetting about her.
