Observations of a Traveler

Oconee steaming
sun lazing in lake
full moon hiding
zoom-zoom sun
way up over-brightening
windshield strobelight

S. Tyger River
awfully fishy -

Autumn sleeves
up to elbow wet
fistful of dimes
smile reflecting in fountain
determination stops mama

A wonderfully alert, cinematic travel poem: each small section catches a different flash of movement, weather, light, sound, and human presence. The fragmentary free-verse form feels perfectly suited to observation on the move, while details such as “windshield strobelight,” “awfully fishy,” and the “fistful of dimes” give the journey humour, texture, and emotional warmth.
