O Flock of Birds
Several years ago, you stopped by here for a feast.
I was not here to witness your presence, but family
members living here sent us pictures. And they spoke
of your symmetrical moves and your orchestrated patterns.
O flock of birds, now that we have moved here, we would love
to see you in person. O flock of birds, please come and get your fill.
I can't wait to see you guys, take pictures,
and write about you. A writing contest awaits
my entry, but I can only participate upon your
arrival. O flock of birds, I watch for you every day,
realizing that it's getting close to the time for you
to go South for the winter.
Even if you do not arrive in time for the contest,
I will rejoice and shout your praises when you
arrive. The harvest of beans and corn has come
and gone, but there are still plenty of seeds on the
grounds for your feastings. Come, O come, O flock of birds.
The rains were gracious, and the crops were great
this season. O flock of birds, come. There's nothing
I would like better than to see you feasting in the fields.
