Numbers Make Me Anxious
Numbers make me anxious.
I see them floating on signs
As I travel the interstate.
They catch my eye sometimes on a TV set.
Five. Nine. Forty-six. Twenty-seven hundred and twelve.
They are on clocks. Parading around like they own places.
8:34 a voice says, grinning at my fear.
Weird since she is a robot voice, and not supposed to be human.
Or have feelings. 9:12 Amazon announces.
I try to get away from numbers, but they follow me. Suffocating me softly.
