Number One Reason People Are Fired
I ask the fifth-grade students what the number one reason is
that people cannot keep their job?
Here are their guesses, given to me in a variety of ways:
cannot do the work
backtalk the boss
late every day
call in sick a lot
don’t understand the job
don’t know how to do the job
are lazy
have a frowning face
have a bad attitude
are grouchy
can’t read
can’t write
can’t add
Then I tell them they had great ideas, but the number one reason
people cannot keep their job is because they do not get along well with other
people, and they spread rumors or make trouble.
The trouble makers always start screeching and screaming at me.
I roll my eyes.
Thinking they might have a bit of a bump in their future career paths.
