Number 63

The canal is lined with anxious people, both young and old. Sitting, standing and laying on blankets. Everyone has put their bet in. It's just a matter of time to see whose duck comes in first. Mascot ducks roam either side of the canal heightening the excitement of the possibility of the $1000.00 winning pot. A giant yellow and blue duck box is hanging strategically over the water ready to be unlatched. The crowd moves closer. Everyone snapping pictures hoping to catch the first photo of the drop. The box now hovers twenty feet in the air. Children screaming to open the box. Ready, set, release! Thousands of little yellow rubber ducks descend the canal floating ever so slowly with the current. There seems to be a few speeding up. Two ducks head the flock. People follow the ducks as they separate, and the race is really on. Cameras are flashing. Everyone leaning over trying to get a glimpse of the winner. Half way to the finish line there's one duck way ahead. It appears to be a no-brainer but at the finish line is a curve ball. The winning duck must get into a net. The slower ducks are catching up. Hundred crowd the net. Cameras snap! Apparently it didn't matter who led the flock. A gust of wind blows suddenly and pushes the winner into the net! The crowd roars, the cameras click and the winner is... Drake Mallard, # 63... Not me!

Hi Virginia, I've never been to a duck race before. However, after reading this, write, in a way, I feel like I did! I see below that you took your grandson with you to the race. Did he like it? It's good to make new memories with your loved ones’. I enjoyed the read. Have a wonderful day:-) Alexis
