The Awakening
Listen to poem:
society comes to a halt in 2020
covid shakes every nation
stunned around the globe
the brave provide essential services
working around the clock
exhausted doing what heroes do
while the rest stay home
in a ruse to minimize
the crippling death tolls
it's best not to dwell on the devastation
but find ways to express compassion
and contribute to the network of solidarity
we've been given a unique opportunity
to sit back and consider our mortality
giving us cause to ponder the meaning of life
appreciating the fragility of it
the mysteries around us
the wonders of the cosmos
