Now That Leaves Blanket the Earth

Now that leaves blanket the earth And the squirrels are scurrying To store up for winter's dearth Now that leaves blanket the earth Value of tree nuts triple in worth That's why the varmints are hurrying Now that leaves blanket the earth And the squirrels are scurrying.

I only saw a group of squirrels once in London. They are not allowed in Malta. I suppose they are not compatible in this concrete ugly island of ours.

Well, Victor, when all is said and done, they are rodents, and they can cause a lot of property damage if not controlled. Thanks for your comment.

The varmints are hurrying for sure! A squirrel fell out of a large oak at school and landed - deceased- where the kindergarteners always sit to wait for their parents to pick them up. Luckily a Daddy figured it out. I ran to get him a sack and he disposed of the carcass before the 5 and 6 year olds saw and began their funeral wails. This poem reminded me of that.

Oh my. You would've had a very sad bunch of kids if they had seen that dead squirrel. I'm saddened myself when something happens to one of those that plays around in my backyard. Last spring the feral cats got a whole bunch of the little ones.
