Abosede Ogundare Poet Free verse

Now and Then

You see I friend everyone 
And l believe life is a journey 
And so I need a partner 
To walk with me 
Mama and Papa always tell me to learn to walk alone 
But they never told me how to garner the strength to 
... So I get weakened,  now AND THEN 

Along my journey I have met friends 
But to me,  are just travel partners
But to them, I do render my help and support when needed 
Some concluded I wasn't loyal, that I was fake 
So, I get left, now AND THEN 

This thing called friendship is a path, I don't know too well 
Relationship,  a path I haven't learnt to commit myself to. 
For this,  friends think I'm trash 
So I get dumped, now AND THEN 

Two friendship stories from my past, a total disaster 
But I know I'm a good person 
I just don't know how to get committed 
So, I get judged now AND THEN
 
Often times everything get muddled up 
How to explain to people, I don't know 
You see, all I want is a travel partner,  cos this life is a journey 
I need no friends,  cos I can't handle friendship. 
But each time I try to explain,  my words fail me 
So, I get misunderstood, now AND THEN.
