November Day

Though leaves still fall this November Day, They're scarce and the color brown. They fall; not float, like a month ago, And they crackle on the ground. The air is colder than yesterday, It nips at your nose and ears, Autumn's breath stills the day, And brings us closer to the Winter laze. Squirrels gather nuts and seeds, They no longer stop to play, But scurry among the Autumn leaves, And hurry not to delay. Children ignore the Winter signs, Of impending frost and snow, But rather romp in the noisy leaves, And scatter them to and fro. I mourn the end of the Autumn reign, For Winter begins too soon, I languish in the Winter hold, Rallying only when Springs unfolds.

I can picture it, and it makes me happy. Your rhyming words are so precisely done. Nice!

Nicely written, Judith, early autumn is a beautiful time of the year but late autumn does have that feel of impending doom and you captured that very well in this poem. John

I greatly appreciate your comments. Living in New England each season is so different which makes it so easy to write poetry about them.

Very enjoyable. Love autumn myself - this is a lovely personal picture from the northern hemisphere.
