Nothing Left To Mourn

in the silent hours of the night, the memories appeared once more,
the softness of her lips across my chest, my heart began to roar.

today I read the final letter, the painful parting, the false charade,
I cannot read between the lines, to understand why love had swayed.

the nights were lost in lustful glory, in this our bodies met as one,
but as the days grew short and hurried, the calling of my task had come.

and in battle fought for country, fought for rights we have defended,
I press her photo to my heart, no matter that our love has ended.

in the trenches I can dream, I can only hope for one more chance,
to find the meaning of my errors, to once again ask for romance.

does her heart beat for another, for someone who has now begun,
to start those lustful nights, while I must battle, living by the gun.

when it’s all over, when the papers scream we’ve won,
will she forgive, and once more let me be the only one.

to hold her close, to never leave her in this world alone,
and capture all the moments, of our love here in our home.

if dreams come true, then let this one be born,
in happy days we’ll live in love, with nothing left to mourn.

Yes, it is painful, but many of these situations resolve in a positive way.
