Nothing Hurts the Way It Used To
Nothing Hurts the Way It Used To
I've reached a point in life where nothing hurts me
The way it used to.
Things happen, you get hurt,
People leave, hearts break—
But life goes on.
I built a wall around myself using only self-love,
And that's why, when things go wrong, I'm no longer affected.
I love myself enough now to know my worth,
And that means no longer crying over someone who didn't love me
Enough to stay, or fight for me when they should have.
I used to be the kind of person affected by the smallest things,
Even though I'd been through so much in such a short time.
And now, I can't even shed a single tear.
Not because I've become numb,
But because I know no one deserves my tears.
I used to think nothing ever gets better,
And that things can only get worse,
And that some of us are just destined for pain.
But I was wrong.
Things do get better, and that's all I hold close now.
The smallest glimmer of hope and possibility—
The fact that there's always light at the end of the tunnel,
And no matter what anyone says, things get better with time.
Trust me, they do.
