Nothing Changes

The saga continues
The past tells a story about today
Nothing ever really changes in life
Unfortunately, it’s a price we’re willing to pay

The thought of change brings excitement
We make a pledge to do different than the day before
A new movement, a new direction
And change the behavior we say abhor

The truth is, we’ve overestimated our intelligence
We’ve underestimated the power of habits and blind drives
The main reason why we fail
Is we avoid the truth, and go with our lie

We say with great certainty, “This time is different!”
“Any movement is key!”
“I know what I need to do for my body!”
Ignoring the fact, I'm never happy with me

It’s like dancing with a partner
Relinquishing the lead
You're at the mercy of your emotions
Following helplessly

We end up feeling like a failure
A victim, nothing ever goes our way
We focus on that one success
While other parts of life are swirling down in the drain

When we fall in love with a thought
It may provide a temporary escape from the pain
But its nothing more than mental masterbation
It feels good for the moment, but again, nothing has changed

Perhaps we should try something different?
Something to truly relieve our pain
Let's start with being honest with our self
Change is painful, but so is staying the same
