Hound dogs don't get much appreciation.

They are very misunderstood.

For one thing no hound will learn to come when they are called.

They just don't.

Somehow they just can't get that into their mind so if you have a hound of any kind don't walk him without a leash unless you are in an enclosed area where he can run until he is ready to come to you.

They are not born knowing what to do with their extremely acute sense of smell.

They have to be trained so they know what is expected of them.

Dogs are pack animals and if they are forced to live aloe in a back yard or a cage they suffer great mental distress.

They need interaction with others of their own kind and with their master in order to be mentally capable of all that is expected of them.

All kids love animals but they are not born knowing how to interact with them.

They have to be taught.

The same is true of the animal.

Their mouth is their hands and they have to be taught how to grab so they don't break your skin with their teeth.

If you treat them right they will be a joy forever.

Some folks will say that he's just a hound, But no finer dog could ever be found. I have to admit that a hound's hard to train, But that's just because he must first grow a brain. He's so happy-go-lucky and such a real tease. He's so full of love and desires just to please; But he gets into trouble more often than not, 'Cause he's curious of nature and gets into a lot. The things that he does shows an active mind. He just has to mature, he just needs some time, To show the intelligence inate in his breed. He's tenacious and brave, this is his creed. He can find any trail that he's set upon. Just give him the scent and then he is gone. He won't give up until he's caught the prey, And you'll know where to find him by his noted bay. You don't want to lose him, he's not something you lend. He's your dog, he's your buddy, he's your best friend. You can look high and low but his like can't be found. There ain't no such animal as this dog, "Just A Hound".

I agree my friend. It takes a lot of patience and a lot of training to train a hound though. They are very hard headed and single minded. Which is why they are not the dog for everyone. Thanks bunches, God Bless, JB

Thanks so much Lindsay. Glad you like it. We have a hound dog and he does get into a lot of trouble but he is such a good hearted, fun loving soul we can't stay mad at him. I had to write this in his honor and in honor of all the hound dogs I have known and loved. God Bless, JB
