Notes About The Poem

In May of this year, I was on a week long cycling trip in Mallorca . On  the Monday morning, I was sitting having a coffee out front of a hotel in Port De Pollenca, while waiting to link up with my other cycling companions.

. As I sat there  the melody of the Leonard Cohen song, A Thousand Kisses Deep, played over the sound system. Being a lover of all things music and the songs of Leonard Cohen, the combination of the  May morning sunshine, the Medetterrian  seascape, and a  day of leisure cycling that lay ahead, made it into one of those rare perfect moments you experience in your life from time to time..

Nothing Blue about this Monday

What a way to begin the week,
A crystal blue sky reflected in a Mediterranean sea.
A Thousand Kisses Deep by Leonard Cohen,
The melody that is, not the words
Waft out from the speaker
Of the beach front hotel
In Port de Pollenca, Mallorca.

I'm biding my time, gazing onto the calm
With, coffee and treat.
There's nothing blue about this Monday
An unexpected moment of,
Bliss and solitude
Takes hold
Where everything is perfect
 In a sometimes, imperfect world.

The trumpet players lips caress the melody
of; A Thousand Kisses Deep.
Sending out its waves onto a
Blue Mediterranean bay.

Then a text bleeps,
'Leaving in five.'
I arise, take up my bike and walk
In step and on the right note
For the day ahead.

isn't it wonderful when everything aligns.... Thank you for running my neuropathways down a few of my own...this is the great add-on of poetry, when the poet draws us out of his limn and into one of our own, deepening our experience, knowing this life is a shared experience

Brian, nicely penned, wonderful imagery in your lines. A kind of Monday I would like to have.

This is a beautifully atmospheric free verse piece! You've perfectly captured the tranquility of that Mediterranean morning. The sensory details—from the taste of the coffee and the trumpet caressing the Leonard Cohen melody, to the vivid blue seascape—create an immersive experience for the reader. I especially love how you played with the word "blue," and how the sudden beep of a text message grounds the poem, transitioning smoothly from a moment of solitary bliss into the excitement of the day ahead.
