Not Yet

Perhaps it is the cynicism that comes as we [me]
[surprisingly]
age less gracefully than expected
[I don’t look 30 anymore!]

that makes each year a blessing
[I didn’t expect to still be here]
and the worst.

Equal measures of both, I think.

I'm appalled to discover how passing time escapes
my attention when
suddenly, financial planning [or lack thereof] becomes a topic
of waking concern.

As yet, I feel no compulsion to discuss that disturbing crackling noise in my knees.
Small gifts.
