Notes About The Poem
"LAY NOT UP FOR YOUR SELVES TREASURES UPON THE EARTH WHERE MOTH AND RUST DOTH CORRUPT AND WHERE THIEVES BREAK THROUGH AND STEAL; BUT LAY UP FOR YOURSELVES TREASURES IN HEAVEN WHERE NEITHER MOTH NOR RUST DOTH CORRUPT AND WHERE THIEVES DO NOT BREAK THROUGH NOR STEAL; FOR WHERE YOUR TREASURE IS THERE WILL YOUR HEART BE ALSO." Mathew 6:19-21
Not Today
I want to go to Heaven,
But I don't want to leave today.
Joking, jesting oft we hear,
Some folks are wont to say.
But truth be told it is no joke.
They really feel that way.
Too much is going on in life,
To throw it all away.
Don't want to miss the good times,
The parties and the fun.
Don't want to see the future end,
Before it has begun;
But if you are not planning for,
The things that really matter,
The future holds no hope for you,
And all your dreams will shatter.
You cannot take it with you,
The things upon this earth.
It's time to look around, take stock,
Of what it's really worth.
Store up your treasure in Heaven,
Where it won't waste away.
For money won't accumulate,
Against the coming day.
When we stand before The Lord,
And wait to hear our name,
The least of all our worries,
Is our toll of earthly gain.
