Not the Bird

I can see myself Outside my window I'm not the bird on the wire But the pole on which the wire is strung With a hundred other cables cut and hung Limp and spent Outdated and irrelevant

I wouldn't want to be the 'bird on the wire...' I think the phrase originates from a method of catching birds where the wire is coated with a sticky material and when stuck the birds frantically try to escape to no avail. I took your poem a different direction, taking note of how others try to use our past hurts to their advantage not realizing that we have already cut these tethers in our quest for freedom. You say so much with so few words

Wild. For me it's honouring Leonard Cohen, a favourite of mine, in hindsight, that he may be referencing; always room for an old song to sing new.

Not to me my poetess. You are my heroine holding staunchly to those tiring wires. I love this piece and will put it in my treasure box.

I never tire of watching the birds on the wires in the back of my house - wondering how they never get electrocuted. Now I believe I shall applaud the poles! Congratulations!
