Not Ready Yet

Not Ready Yet

Give me just one more day of Christmas jubilee
Not ready to let go of Christmas, yet
Or stop gathering flecks of stardust
 Scattered from the Heavens
Still reveling in the sweet aroma of frankincense
 Or bovine straw
  Lingering on evening's breath
To walk by candles in the window
Enchanted by twinkling lights of welcome.

My heart pitches a tent
 On hillsides among olive trees
Craning it's neck to hear newborn angelic carols
And longs to cradle the pure cry of Love
 Again and again
Infinite Love I can hold and understand.

Stay one more night, sweet season of hope,
Beside me
Not letting the lights twinkling with wicks of joy,
  Festooning trees and doorways,
   Dim with memory
Or exchange red and green for blue and ice
 On starless nights.
Not ready to eat
The last crumbs of Christmas manna
Or leave the firesides of desert travelers
 Stargazing.

Just one more night precious holiday
And then you can slip away
To walk from Bethlehem to Jerusalem.

Oh my, this is an evocative and heartfelt write,I could feel the sentiments of never wanting to let those flickers of cherish and magic, fade away, as time ticks..The hope and the happiness that accompany the Christmas season, fill our souls with enthusiasm amidst darkness and our hearts don't wish to accept that sense of emptiness again..Ahh,this poem evoked so many emotions..You've beautifully described about everything..Metaphorically conveying deep feelings, so wonderfully..loved reading this

Your poem adeptly encapsulates the profound emotions associated with the cherished Christmas season, evoking a sense of reluctance to bid farewell, dear Sam. The usage of vivid imagery, skillful metaphorical elements, and profound emotional introspection collectively foster a sentimental and thought-provoking ambiance. Blessings my friend

- An emptiness is felt when everything is packed away... I let the lights shine for a while longer... we need some light in the dark winter time - A beautiful and sensitive poem, Sam :) - Happy New Year :) - hugs

I feel sad for those who did not really have a Xmas in Jerusalem and Bethlehem.. Your poem beautifully captures the sentiments of cherishing the Christmas season and the reluctance to see it end. The rich imagery, metaphorical elements, and emotional depth contribute to a nostalgic and contemplative atmosphere, inviting readers to savour the magic of the holiday a little longer..
