Notes About The Poem

For Nette Onclaud's  'SHOW ME A CHOKA' Poetry Contest/ June 8, 2025

Not On A Monday

Folks get paid and they
go out on weekends to play.
It often seems that way . . . yet
NOT on a MONDAY.
“Thank God It’s Friday,” folks say.
Mondays they’d rather forget.

Andrea, this is really a slice of life. Getting back to a Monday routine can be really painful. After a while, it doesn't seem to matter any more. Yes, retirement tends to blend the days. Smiles!!!

I no longer work Mondays either because I am semi-retired but they let me stop working Mondays. I love my longer 4 day weekends now!! but for a long time, I hated Monday.

All our work-life most of us keep thinking every Monday, the meaningfulness of what we are doing,...and then it's another week completed. Nice take on the prompt.

Yep it sure seems that way. Hating how fast we age yet ironically praying for the week to go fast as we pray for the weekends!

Another clever angle. You done good. The topic gives me the willies, spent so many decades tied to the clock, doing the Mon to Fri go out until it became Mon to Fri sit in recliner. I really resented the clock for so many decades I wonder sometimes if I manifested my brain injury. I'm off to read more ARD goodies ... CayCay

So true! Although for some reason I've always liked Wednesdays less than Mondays...
