Not Enough Time
I seek a balance of time in harmony with myself
like skipping rocks across the incoming tide
they all sink yet ripples move forward
and the biggest splash is where I began
My path builds from the first skip
with held breath until the final tick-tock
Split the hours to ransom away the clock
I squirrel minutes to put inside my hour glass
then happily turn it over as they begin to drop
letting go of what cannot be kept
Though sometimes regrets linger to haunt the air
precious memories are lived and twirl by
It’s not hard to choose you, why deny
and among all of the excited voices raised
what about all my this? Well, that’s all there is
time can only give so much back
With my heart in love with each day’s while
surely, I can somehow do some more?
But if you should go before we can cross a door
I’ll keep the minutes safe inside my dreaming jar
a whirlpool of next times that always grows
I don’t want to surrender any to the air
Instead, as days fill my calendar of desires
in anticipation I’ll know you again
