formidable dam

love the various interpretations of the poem PS, its a very topical poem as there has been worries of a dam being breached in the Uk am sure tears were spilled at the thought of possessions and possibly lives being swept away:-( hugs jan xx

This would be terrifying. Can also be interpreted as a metaphor. Excellent! : )

Yes, this can be interpreted in a few different ways. Sometimes the spirit requires a flood to recover from sadness.
