Nondescript

He was not much to brag about.
No one at the dog park ever shouted:
“Hey look at him, he’s so gracefully beautiful”.

We had met by chance
Each on our daily stroll
Shared a moment together.

He fell into step with my gait
And we, somehow, became friends.
He would go off on his own sometimes
And I would worry…a little
Knowing he needed his freedom
As much as I needed mine.

Few ever commented
On the nondescript duo
Strolling along the path
Untethered.
