Nobody To Nobody
I'm nobody! Who are you?
Are you nobody too?
Then there's a pair of us---don't tell!
They'd banish us, you know.
How dreary to be somebody!
How public, like a frog
To tell your name the livelong day
To an admiring bog!
...Emily Dickinson
So let them ban us
toss us up
like wind bitten leaves
on autumn's best dressed day
and throw us amongst others
grounded, muddied, unnamed.
Ashamed? Not I!
The frog has his fill
of maggots, grown
squirming by his side
while maidens pucker
winter-like kisses
upon unspoken lips
in hopes to earn his name.
Society's shame!
