A journalist asked, “what will happen, Mother Teresa, when you are no longer with us?” Her answer: “I believe that if God finds a person even more useless than me, He will do even greater things through her.” – from the Prayer of Jabez devotional by Bruce Wilkinson He takes nobodies, just like me And makes them someone The world can see… As miracles, wonders, amazing to see Because they were nobodies, Not expected to be anything worthy of contemplating They were mere mortals, with human errors Sinners who knew they were unworthy of blessings Just ‘nobodies’ who were undeserving and disgraceful Full of shame and dishonor – in need of our prayers! He takes those nobodies, just like me And makes them worthwhile So the world can see…. Beyond the sin, beyond the despair There is a heart who, once in God’s care Becomes someone worthy of our kindness Someone worthy of our interest Someone worthy of our acceptance Someone who God makes into ‘okay’ A nobody who will be welcomed by the Creator Into heaven, where we can know the One who is love. He takes nobodies, just like me And makes them someone who the world will see As miraculous because they’re His child, Wonder of wonders – His love is alive! While we don’t know the when or the why We can see the change from darkness to light We can see the way God makes a way in life We can see the faith that stirs our hearts to pray We can see the music that stills us so we’re saved We can see the love that arose from the grave – To offer us forgiveness that would surely change us So that when we say, I’m saved… We are reminded that love is here to stay And when we take the time to say Love is the only way – we realize that, once saved Our spirits will someday walk away… Nobodies who’ve been changed to saints, Who will finally reach the destination of heaven, Where God will take us home, to the house He built for us, To the home that is far away, but will always remain A place where we will stay – God’s children And come what may, we’ll always love the way God saved us from the shame – God saved us from the stain Of sin that was once ours,… Nobody, I truly am – but a nobody that knows God CAN!
