No One Ever Wore It That Way Before

Well done, she said.
Smiling her biggest smile.
I have never seen anyone else wear it like that!
There are other ways to wear a skirt?
On a head? Or a shoulder perhaps?

You should buy it! She sang out gleefully.
It looks great! Another stranger told me.
Turn around! The other one said.
I pirouetted, in front of the three-way.
A stranger had asked me to, after all.

It looks great!
It looks darling!
No one has ever worn it that way before.
I look at the skirt….
On my waist.
Wondering what that means.
They do not let me leave without it.
Telling me I have never looked better.

Nothing like shopping at a store
Where the salespeople are on commission.
I will have my mother bring it back in the morning.
A skirt I loathe, but I am such a people-pleaser.
They hip-hip-hooray me as they take my credit card.

I am so glad you have him. I finally wised up. It took me about three hundred years.

Delightful situation that women and men find themselves in, with people that would love to sell one anything, presenting it as a unique opportunity! Much enjoyed dear, Caren !

Thank you Swetha. I think of this when they run toward me like vultures telling me how great I look in something that makes me look like a weeble-wobble that can't fall down.

I used to sell at a snazzy upscale women's department, and I was a little less "complimentary" than most. I quit when I sold $7000 worth of coats in a 4 hour sale, making minimum wage. But when I called another store for a customer to see if they had a particular coat the salesperson there told me their store was on commission, and she had sold $3000 worth of coats that day and would have a $600 bonus. What? Same store, different pay scales.
