No Needs Not Today No Noise

Sh!
No needs,
clinical, inept attention,
no noise
We have to hear Robbie.

She understood at a young age
It is not about her
Life revolves around her brother
He rules the family

Sh! No needs.
It is not about you.
What do you want?
We are busy with Robbie now.

Robbie is the one who
Has seizures.
Birthday party invitation?
Not unless he can go too.

Picnic at the museum?
Ask if we can take Robbie.
If not, we are sorry, but you cannot go.
It would not be fair.

What do you want this time?
Can't you see we are stressed?
We are busy!
Why are you always asking?

What, Robbie, honey?
What are you trying to say, sweetie?
In awe that they do not see themselves,
She finally stops asking.

As they hover around their king,
honey-ing him and sweetie-ing him,
she quietly cuts her arms with knives,
wondering if she will bleed.

Forgotten before
She was born,
her life that never was
quietly slips away,
unnoticed...

Sh!
No noise. No needs.

Sad, powerful, painful; we humans have a way of mindlessly labeling children that sometimes destroys them. well penned.

And lest we forget, we are still that little child, crying for a way out.

I am an elementary school counselor; everyone cries in my office except me. I cry at home.

this is so sad, caren, but i understand it very well. my daughter had seizures and her needs were often addressed over her brother's. we really tried to pay him equal attention but when you have a disabled child, sometimes that isn't possible...

Thank you Ilene. I hear the children, and I wonder if others realize? Are we listening? Do we understand that they all need to sit on our laps and cuddle, and be told we love them? If I save just one child heartache, I will be grateful.
