No Matter

With memory and hope I live,
I am life. Universal we,
a universe in me. So be!

Before this, this we, no memory,
no hope, no universal we,
no life. Cradle to Grave and so;
after this ? Reason must suppose
no universal we, no memory,
no hope!

Alas, no memory, no hope,
No matter.

I really like the beginning, David, and it seems to me like the conclusion. I am still trying to understand the last 3 lines of your 2nd stanza. In order to have memory, one must live and I mean live as participate. It requires the act of interest and giving. Thought provoking as usual. With short wording, you leave... kinda like a universe. Thanks for sharing, Best wishes, Caroline.

Quite a sense of despair in this poem, David, but that is a sad fact of life. Nicely written! Love, Carolyn
