No Hugs From Daddy
There were no hugs from daddy
Cause daddy wasn’t there
No strong compassionate hands
To wipe my tears with care.
He was a drinking man
That just couldn’t stop
And mommy was his target
When his temper got too hot.
Moments spent with daddy
Were few and far between
He left after the divorce
And became a stranger rarely seen.
He hardly ever called
Just to say hi
No cards or gifts
Had he ever thought to buy.
Who and where’s your daddy
My friends would always ask
But the pain they couldn’t see
Was hidden behind a mask.
There were no hugs from daddy
Cause daddy wasn’t there
But no hate do I harbor
It’s only pity I can spare.
This was written from the view of my three children--using their comments, questions, and
emotions as my inspiration.
