No Hassles

Need I take on the burdens of the world?
Need my shoulders be ever so broad?
Do I need to get ulcers
For what others have not done?

Am I my brother's keeper?
If so, who, in hell, is mine?

Need I be a ladder
For others to step on and climb?

Should I hold my peace
For fear of reprimand?

Do I care if you like to hear
What you would like to hear?

Am I here for you
Or you for me?

Would you care a damn
About what happens to me?
Should I, then, for you?

Peace!

You go your way
And I go mine;
And for the time being -
Well met!
