No Clue

Younger people have no clue
That many things they like to do
Will, one day, prove to be too much,
By slipping from an aging clutch.

The rah-rah-rah and go-go-go
Of constant moving starts to slow.
The parties lasting through the night
No longer whet your appetite.

The dinners that begin at 8,
With drinks you’d once appreciate,
Give way to early-bird-type meals
With much less food, which now appeals.

The traveling to cool locales
To ski or hike with groups of pals
May be the trip you once would choose,
But now, you’d pick a river cruise.

You never think when you are young
That you would ever be among
The people who have reached the age
Where life is at a different stage.

Ilene, all I can say is amen! Too bad we have to wait until moving is painful to learn how good we had it. I loved the rhymes you chose. Top shelf!

- The rah-rah-rah and go-go-go ... while you are young ... life is short ... live while you can ... the "quiet time" will come ... - hugs

i agree, anne-lise, but it's hard to realize when you're young that this will happen to you. thanks for taking the time to comment...

Frightening in a way Ilene, I remember when both my parents and grandparents were alive and I was at the bottom rung of the ladder now I've reached the top with grandkids at the bottom. Happy New year. Tom

You know, I actually see so many (too many?) young people today playing life much closer to the vest than I ever did: They're eating smaller portions, healthier food; and they're saving for retirement in their early 20's. I'm not jealous of them at all. THANK HEAVEN, I lived large in my 20's and early 30's. Still had time to 'get serious' by my mid-30's. Learned more about 'life' up to 35 than I did afterward.
