no apology my pain: inconsequential your conscious is seared Eileen Manassian While Jesus was on the cross, he prayed, "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do." He forgave even when no apology was offered. He forgave the ones who were the cause of his death. I find that SO hard to do...It's the hardest part about being a follower of Jesus. To be able to forgive someone who will not admit to wrong doing...takes divine strength. "To err is human; to forgive, divine." I've also found out that if you are always silent about ill treatment, people will take advantage of you. They will take your silence for cowardice and think that they can walk all over you. When Jesus was struck by the high priest's servant, he did not remain silent. He questioned him, "Why do you hit me?" I believe we should speak out against what is wrong. People may never acknowledge wrongdoing, but it needs to be said. There is a fine balance...I am struggling in trying to find where that balance is...

A wonderful Senryu Bambi, I am reminded of words i heard years ago, “Let the first act of every morning be to make the following resolve for the day: - I shall not fear anyone on Earth. - I shall fear only God. - I shall not bear ill will toward anyone. - I shall not submit to injustice from anyone. - I shall conquer untruth by truth. And in resisting untruth, I shall put up with all suffering.” ? Mahatma Gandhi True words to live by from a great man. Would that we all could do so.

An expressive 3 liner, Eileen. There is much that can be said about it. Your footnote would make an interesting blog. I don't carry grudges, but I do carry hidden pain...we are human! Hugs // paul

For me forgiveness is the way to maintain my peace. I agree that it does not mean staying silent. If we are able to speak without anger our words can be truly impactful. Loving those who hurt us is only possible with God's help and we don't always seek his council.

Yes, Richard. It is only possible with His help. I'm finding it difficult at the moment, to be honest with you. Thanks for the visit. The truth is....people who are hateful don't have a real connection with God. If they did....they would see people with His eyes. Thanks for being a constant in my life. You have integrity. You are truthful. You are kind. Bless you.

We are Christians in the degree we imitate Christ. Forgiveness is thr Cristian trademark . A very powerful Haiku, dear Eileen.

Yes, my dear poet. Also..."We pardon to the extent that we love" One of my favorite quotations. If we love someone.....we will forgive that person time and again because we cannot live without his/her presence in our lives. That is the truth. Even when we have the "right" to be upset. Even when we have been misunderstood and maligned, we forgive...we forgive...we forgive....because we love. When it is a person who is not close to us....we only want to get revenge. That is the sad truth. No, it is not Christ like. Thank you, my dear poet, for your visit. Hugs

Your message here is definitely food for thought. A very well written verse, and I love your note below. It is important to acknowledge our faults, as well as our blessings. You are a wonderful poet with a strong mind and heart. Always, Laura

Thank you, Laura. I know my shortcomings very well. I also have many blessings. God knows our hearts. He knows our sincerity. I rest in that assurance. In this world we will not always be loved....It is a hard truth to bear, but I'm becoming better at bearing it. Hugs

(not enough room in first comment) There are some things though that we can't "forget." A really bad person, we are under no obligation to cater to them or let them take advantage of us. I don't think God expects that of us either! YEs, Wrongdoing HAS to be addressed!

Yes, so many things in life are like a fine balancing act, Eileen. I love how you wear your heart here on your sleeve. this is a very honest write. I have no problems with forgiveness. Even the people who wrong me or annoy me, eventually I just forget all about them. IF they are bothering me, I like to gripe about them, but nobody has ever hurt me seriously enough to where I needed to actually forgive them. In other words, I don't carry grudges. If someone wrongs me, I can become friends again.

If they want to be friends again, Andrea....What if they have wronged you and couldn't care less? What do you do then? Thanks for the post. I know you don't get notifications for the responses, so I will visit a poem and leave my comment there as well. I'm leaving this here because I know there are people who read my work meticulously....thanks
