Nine Eleven

Nine Eleven

Alas , oh monoliths, that once stood tall
above the great metropolis
that housed human souls like carnival balloons
and the children would release them in the air
never to be seen again

The world is rife with Gods and Demons
who disguise themselves as
good and evil and which to choose
and who will lose
but we are all collateral

Oh, that violence would erupt
in the name of Gods and Demons
the monoliths have been destroyed
releasing the balloons in the air
as spheres toward heaven

Will they touch each other good or bad
in peace as they drift up toward their paradise
or will they pass each other upward
never to be seen again

Ralph this is excellent- but for me it was not Gods and demons. It was people and demons. God slept that day. I use to go up trade center 1 three times a week. still cant believe all those people I knew just died all at once. I wrote several poems for 9-11 but it will take me a year to find them.

Hi A: Since you knew some of those peole , I can believe it was more personal to you. the credo the people had who did this was a God they were sacrificing for. I used metaphors instead.

Your poem falls within the category of metamorphic, fanciful and imaginative; armed with an energy of its own that propels it into our sphere of reality. Emile.

Yes, ralph, it does seem as though that would have been a good time for poets to take out their 9/11 poems from the past. I did one but it was really bad and I am embarrassed to post it!

this is very nice . It is the kind of remembrance poem that is different which means it is much more interesting than the standard fare. I like it VERY much.

Thank you, Andrea: I'm surprised that other poets haven't written about 911 or at least I haven't seen any.

Interesting use of metaphor here as I never would have thought of souls as balloons in the air. Nice write in reminding of what mankind has done to itself.

Thank you , Dan: I didn't want to point the finger at anyone or any religion except to say that anything that kills people indiscriminately has a perverse belief that it's ok.

It was one of the saddest days I can recall. I remember my mom calling me and telling me we were under attack. Those poor souls in those buildings. It was horrifying. . I have heard the phone calls that were recorded before the buildings collapse. Sickening. Did you know that one of the buildings (7) went down without being touched by a jet? Figure that one out. Ralph please check out" Loose Change" documentary on 911. If you haven't seen it yet. Great write here! Demons in disguise caused it.

Hi Michael, thank you. I wrote this not too much longer after this tragic incident and it really has changed the way the world thinks about the middle east in the last 14 years. But paranoia will destroy ya.
