Nightmares

What does it take to stem the fearsome tide?
Do our worst fears only bring them on?
Answers! Before I continue this ride.
Is reality a shared illusion?
Is our health affected by what we dream,
our future determined by what we dread?
Do we create Hitlers in our time stream?
Is it to cancer and death that we're led
by our imagined fears and nightmares?
I'd like to adopt a positive mode,
joy and hope are my emergency flares,
light against all the "truths" I've been told.
Heels dug in, a sentry in a dark night,
marking shadows of men in headlong flight.
