Nightmare Sonnet

I often wonder if ever in this land
You say; “Wake up and be alert because in one
Stroke I will reveal. Close to your frail hand,
A note, and on it something’s wrote, a sum
Of dreamy ink and failing to understand
That its resolution on your wit depends
Keeping you alive, digits wrote describing things,
Mystic numbers loiter bereft of reason led.
And on your sleepy eyes these words so near:
‘Remember crucial patterns, shapes of things;
Dare not forget, for nothing isn’t clear!’
Hallucinate to gain. Alongside this day
Of catastrophic threat, to all that you hold dear,
Wake up and tell me what those numbers say”.

Oh, boy, that does make me quiver, David. I would just hate a dream with numbers circling all about me! Very Shakepearean- like sonnet! andrea
