Night Visitor
Yes I'm afraid of the dark
because I've seen what lurks from within
I've seen its eyes at the edge of my bed in the night
felt it creeping and crawling over my skin
I've felt its pressure upon my chest
unable to breathe and paralysed through fear
unable to cry to my loved ones for help
as it whispers woefully in my ear
I've felt its longing to take my breath
silently sucking at my life and soul
I've felt my body slowly sinking through my bed
as its negativity takes its toll
I've seen its many different faces
but it always looks the same
I've been afraid of the dark ever since
the first time my night visitor came.
