Night Sounds

Yes, I heard that
The crickets stridulating
Just when day was darkening
The frogs all flat
And bass drums in need of tightening
Late owl asking
Who was listening
The quarrels of the dogs
The night's harmony rending
The guns random futility
A sleepless clamour
Of cold hostility
