Night Poem
That dog was barking again
All last night
Constant, constant, constant
It must give itself a headache.
Counted seven hundred
And seventy seven sheep
But stopped out of boredom
Do sheep get insomnia?
I can understand a pond
Maybe even a pump, a waterfall
Trickling down to the main body
But that sounds like Niagara.
I’m sure the emergency services
Turn their sirens full volume
The closer they get to town
Justifying their existence.
Do drunks dream drunk dreams
After shedding or shredding their voices
All the way from the Giddy Goose
To their caravan near the sewage works.
If I’m not asleep
In the next ten minutes
I’m going back downstairs
For a cigarette.
Must remember...
Fix that loose fence panel
Sort that overflow drip
Take a tramadol tomorrow night...
If I’m not asleep.
In the next.......
