Night Poem

That dog was barking again All last night Constant, constant, constant It must give itself a headache. Counted seven hundred And seventy seven sheep But stopped out of boredom Do sheep get insomnia? I can understand a pond Maybe even a pump, a waterfall Trickling down to the main body But that sounds like Niagara. I’m sure the emergency services Turn their sirens full volume The closer they get to town Justifying their existence. Do drunks dream drunk dreams After shedding or shredding their voices All the way from the Giddy Goose To their caravan near the sewage works. If I’m not asleep In the next ten minutes I’m going back downstairs For a cigarette. Must remember... Fix that loose fence panel Sort that overflow drip Take a tramadol tomorrow night... Very true and exactly what happens. Of course when age comes into play naps can refresh. Wish you many of those naps before your final one. Best regards David in NZ
