Night of the Owls: Collaboration With Poet Heidi Sands

The owls hoot in chorus to each other where I live
Wisdom spreads in the night, tree to tree, through darkness
How true it is, such wise thoughts are not seen but known
By those who choose to learn in the course of life

I heard the flapping of wings one time, as one flew toward me
It landed on a tree nearby, hooting messages in the silence
I listened intently as other owls answered from a distance
Then my thoughts rested, leaving only one thought behind

Gently I sat on a nearby rock, to listen more to the hooting
The air was calm, smelling life within the oak trees
I could feel my heartbeat thumping in my chest
I could feel Gaia’s life force vibrating on my feet

A kind of phenomenal magnet was attracting the birds
They were coming from almost all trees to perch close to me
I wasn’t frightened at all; I was calm as the owls went on hooting
Our souls were somehow connected to the rhythm of the universe

As my soul was lifted with the chorus in the trees
Enlightened from the crescendo of their soothing hooting
They seemed to sense my presence, sitting here alone
As more came along to join the music in the Oaks

They flew, they perched and they found me, their audience here on the hill
But, I was one with them as the silence was broken
A message of unity came over me, hoot by hoot, with each moment
Calling to me, as I listened, while their wise message resonated within

This poem caused these facts to resonate within me: The Hebrew word for owl is YaNSHooF, a meld of YoNah = dove + SHoFar = horn. The Chinese word for owl is a combination of the 3 symbols for eagle + head + cat. https://translate.google.co.il/?hl=en#en/zh-CN/owl
