Night and Day

The night gives way to
dawn
without my attendance.

I make a decision at
4:00 a.m.
to forego sleep this night.

The music has entangled me
you see
and I cannot give up this last
day

of free choice

to perform the
responsible act of
preparing for work and
presenting with a clear head.

Wrath awaits me, of course,
but
sometimes . . . I just don’t care.

Sometimes . . . the real world
takes a back seat to
the needs of my
soul.
