New Year

NEW YEAR

Looking back at days gone by,
a New Year starts, the old one ends
I think of all the happy times
I've enjoyed because of friends.

New Year, a time for resolutions,
easy to make but hard to keep.
Last year I tried different options,
but none even lasted a week.

It's no use giving up chocolate,
it wouldn't last more than a day.
And as for smoking or drinking,
that's not my life-style way.

I've now thought of an answer,
my dilemma's been turned about.
It will be far more practical
not to give up, but give out.

By showing acts of kindness,
just a smile can bring good cheer.
This takes very little effort
to pass on and persevere.

There's many opportunities,
various places I can start
nursing homes need visitation,
some families have drifted apart.

I could welcome new neighbors
who come to reside in my street.
It could be a simple gesture,
to bring a gift for them to greet.

This New Year's resolution's
more productive than the past,
for continual acts of kindness
spreads happiness that will last.

Thanks for comment. Sowing seeds of happiness is a two way street. Both giver and receiver blessed.
