New Year

The new year is now nearly here,
the last blast of the festive cheer,
all the people far and near
sing as one and all sing clear
drinking wine and drinking beer,
a zestful zing of cheerful tears
then Big Ben rings for all to hear
kisses and hugs happy new year,
in the morning there's no cheer
"never again am I drinking beer",
but you know that next new year,
towards alcohol all will steer.
