New Old Masters
When I was very tired
After much long reading
Of today’s leading works
I sought the refreshment I need then
With a number of old friends
There was Emily, Robert and Rod
Longfellow and Wentworth too
Telling words so sweet and dear
These are the ones I love to hear
Gentle lines of simple words
Clean clear visions in my head
Tales that everyone knows
And I wonder where are they
To lift the torch and let it shine
New masters to stand with old
New tales that everyone will know
Long have I read word of many
Looking for some bright new friends
To stand tall with my friends of old
